Emily Wolinsky is President of NMD United, a non-profit organization that serves and supports adults with neuromuscular disabilities (NMD). NMD United is a peer-led and driven organization that established its status as a 501(c)3 in 2014. The Urination Chronicles is one of many blogs that Emily has started with the goal of educating the masses on life with a disability from her perspective as a woman diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy at 18 months of age. Wolinsky's muse for most of her writing is disability activist and legend, Harriet McBryde Johnson, who once wrote, "storytelling is a survival tool." While her stories are honest and real, Emily also stresses that she is not a doctor and wants you to know that if you get any bright ideas from this blog to always consult with your team of medical professionals before making any big moves.
When she is not pursuing projects related to NMD United, Emily works full-time for a community college in Austin, Texas as a disability accommodations specialist. Emily holds a master's degree in Counseling and spent a good portion of her adult life as a secondary teacher. She lives in a home she's constantly remodeling with her two dogs, her boyfriend, and a roommate.
